About the Tour

Celebrate 10 years of performance at the Ecology Action Centre’s Fern Lane office, an award-winning retrofit of a century-old saltbox home in Halifax’s North End. Completed in 2016, the renovation significantly reduced energy use while expanding the building’s footprint, setting a benchmark for low-carbon retrofit design.

This tour will highlight key strategies behind the building’s performance and offer insight into how existing buildings can be adapted to meet ambitious energy and climate goals. Led by Chris Benjamin, Senior Energy Coordinator at the Ecology Action Centre, and Keith Robertson, Principal at Solterre, the tour provides a behind-the-scenes look at a leading example of sustainable retrofit in practice.
