Members of our team delivered the course six times in multiple locations across the province, beginning in the fall of 2024 and continuing into spring 2025.
We designed the building science-centric training course for both new and seasoned Part 9 residential builders, as well as other industry professionals interested in exterior retrofits. The course focused on solutions to address key limitations and challenges contractors face when undertaking enclosure retrofits on existing homes. These solutions include improved insulation strategies, new exterior air barriers, and window replacement in BC’s varied climate zones.
The instructor-led training course blended lecture-style presentations with hands-on engagements, focusing on Part 9 exterior retrofits for contractors in BC. Using tabletop mock-ups, 3D graphics, and all the necessary tools and materials for hands-on training activities, our building science specialists led an open and interactive dialogue during each session.
To support the training course, we also developed a training manual and an installation reference for the trainees’ use during the course.
By participating in this course, the trainees:
- Acquired the fundamental knowledge required to be successful in evaluating and implementing high-performance enclosure design demanded by current and future code requirements.
- Gained hands-on experience with high-performance air and water barrier membrane installation detailing. This detailing work is known to improve efficiency, increase durability, and reduce installation costs.
- Learned cutting-edge detailing approaches that can be implemented in today’s projects.
- Received 7 hours of continuing professional development (CPD) credits.
