This research project evaluated the real-world performance of a multi-family Passive House building in British Columbia’s coastal region. Passive House provides a framework for high-performance buildings that is growing in popularity on Canada’s west coast. For buildings to gain Passive House certification, they must achieve specific performance values for heating energy use intensity, total energy use intensity, spatial temperature variation, ventilation performance, and air leakage rate. However, the potential benefits of Passive House are not well understood in Canada, and there is currently limited data on the actual performance of low energy residential buildings in various Canadian climates.
