RDH was commissioned by the Building Officials' Association of BC (BOABC) to update the BC Energy Step Code Handbook for Building Officials (also developed by RDH and published in 2019). The newly updated resource, titled BC Energy Step Code and Zero Carbon Step Code Handbook for Building Officials Version 2.0, was published in March 2025. RDH finalized the handbook's content, layout, and branding through an iterative review process and prepared the document for online publication.

Like the first version of the handbook, Version 2.0 provides an overview of the BC Step Code, the principles of a performance-based code, and the code compliance process/roles. The updated content also discusses airtightness, energy modelling, and Zero Carbon Step Code metrics and compliance pathways. Version 2.0 is enhanced with new examples, best practices, illustrations, example “redline” details, and detailed checklists for building officials.
