RDH and The Passive House Network produced this groundbreaking report demonstrating the value of Passive House for lowering energy use in multifamily buildings. The study modeled baseline codes against Passive House by testing baseline scenarios for a multifamily building archetype. The results were clear: Passive House standards produce substantially lower energy use in climate zones 1 through 7. When tested against the 2021 IECC and ASHRAE 90.1 2016 and 2019 baseline scenarios for the study archetype, Passive House showed an approximate 2x to 4.5x improvement in total energy use, depending on the climate zone and baseline scenario.
