RDH played a critical role in the 2016 creation and 2018 update of the National Masonry Systems Guide: Northwest Edition. This guide is intended to simplify the installation of masonry-based wall systems and promote high-quality design.

By highlighting eight primary above-grade masonry-based wall systems, the guide explains how these systems can be designed and constructed to meet or exceed energy code requirements while maintaining a high level of durability against interior and exterior environmental loads.

RDH’s services for this project included development of a strategic engagement plan, meeting administration needs (agendas, briefing documents, invitations, etc.) with the guide’s task force and mason contractors, moderating meetings and workshops, and establishment and management of the project’s work plan, budget, and schedule. RDH also played a critical role in technical content development, illustration creation, and publication management.

In 2018, RDH was retained to update and expand the document. The updated guide includes 400+ pages of technical content, photos, illustrations, thermal design tables, and design and construction checklists. Throughout the project, RDH supported the dissemination and adoption of the technical guide’s use through numerous industry-facing presentations and workshops.
