Quw’utsun Valley Hospital is a 204-bed, 607,600-sf acute care hospital featuring emergency, mental health, and community outreach departments. The facility is BC’s first all-electric hospital, targeting LEED Gold certification and designed to meet post-disaster requirements and the CAGBC Zero Carbon Building (ZCB) Design Standard v2.

RDH is providing building enclosure consulting services through design and construction, working with the general contractor and architect to support coordination of enclosure design and construction approaches. RDH’s work addresses site and construction constraints, including the remote location, labour availability, and pandemic-related protocols during construction. RDH is reviewing mock-ups, testing, water penetration, and pressurization to identify and address quality-related issues.

Services include calibrated energy modelling and hourly energy analysis to support design development and energy target setting, zero carbon design consulting, and measurement and verification planning. The hospital also includes two swing floors that can accommodate 64 more beds, supporting future capacity needs. As BC’s first all-electric hospital committed to zero carbon performance, Quw’utsun Valley Hospital demonstrates an approach to low-carbon healthcare infrastructure.
