Samaritan Healthcare's new Moses Lake Hospital is a 175,000-sf, 50-bed replacement facility serving a rapidly growing community in Eastern Washington. The greenfield project replaces a 1950s campus that had reached the end of its useful life, delivering a full-service hospital with an expanded emergency department, surgical suites, labor and delivery, diagnostic imaging, physical therapy, and an infusion clinic.

The building is all-electric for all systems except food preparation and emergency backup, with heat recovery technology capturing and reusing waste energy from sterilization, IT cooling, and other hospital processes.

RDH was retained by ZGF Architects to provide Building Enclosure Consulting services throughout design and construction. During the construction documents phase, RDH reviewed enclosure assemblies spanning below- and above-grade walls, glazing systems, roofs, balconies, and a slate shingle rainscreen, focusing on control of water penetration, air leakage, vapor diffusion, and thermal continuity. Through construction, RDH conducted periodic field reviews to observe enclosure installation across a multi-year construction schedule, reviewed submittals and shop drawings for key enclosure assemblies including TPO roofing, CMU, and adhered stone veneer, and provided construction administration support through RFI and ASI review. RDH also performed water penetration testing of glazing systems and coordinated whole-building air leakage testing to support compliance with the 2018 Washington State Energy Code.
